The Cognitive Abilities Test, or CogAT, is a standardized multiple choice test that is often used to assess children for gifted and talented or other advanced school programs. Lessons are followed by a short quiz to review the specific concepts covered. These lessons will allow them to spend time learning each question type and specific concepts that show up frequently on the test. The test’s question types are unique and will likely be unlike anything your child has seen in the classroom. The course includes 9 lessons, one for each specific question type that appears on the CogAT. These will be the first things you see when accessing your account. This is why we’ve included a study guide with recommended study schedules and study tips to guide you and your child through the course. Young children, and their parents, often struggle when faced with preparing for such a daunting test without any guidance or instruction. Test prep companies will sell you a book or an online test and let you figure out the rest. All in all, experiencing a realistic practice test will make taking the real test a less stressful experience for your child, and will allow them to perform to the best of their abilities. The CogAT in particular has many unique question types that could be confusing if you haven’t seen them before.įull-length tests also help your child work under the pressure of the limited administration time, since the CogAT is a timed test. This allows your child to get to know the question types so that they aren’t surprised when they see them on test day. The best way to prepare for the CogAT is by taking realistic, timed, full-length tests. Read on to learn more about the features of our CogAT courses.
